Review: This was just like stepping back into the perfect show. The music started and you get all excited that we are going back in. I loved watching this movie and being part of Downton again.
It really didn’t feel like anything had changed at all, the characters were all the same and the chemistry was still there as always and oh it was wonderful. I just loved and adored it.
Though the royal staff my goodness were they so darn rude, I hated them the second they arrived, too good to go round back where they belong and too good to use their supplies and equipment, too good to allow the actual house staff to do anything. It was awful they were so excited at the prospect of working whilst the royals were there and then they got their dreams crushed. The tricks they pulled were hilarious and so made me laugh, I love that they did that and rightly so as it was their place to work not the rude staff that arrived.
I really loved the addition of Maud and Lucy, I loved that she had this girl as her maid but she didn’t really treat her as such but you just think she’s really modern and kind for taking care of her and wanting to give her whole estate to her. Then the plot twist comes that she’s actually her child I’m so happy she was to be given what she deserved. Plus can we just mention Lucy and Tom were adorable and I think Sybil would have been so happy he found someone decent who will love him like she did.
Moseley speaking out of place was great, you know with Moseley something is going to go wrong, I was so shocked when he started talking and to the queen of all people. Oh I was in shock and laughing a bit at him, he really should have thought before he spoke, but he was defending his people and wanted the credit to go where it rightly deserved.
Mary considering not having Downton anymore was sad, not an easy place to keep running especially as the economy was changing but still sad she spoke about it and considered it. Edith being pregnant I lived in so happy Marigold will have a half sibling to play with, and the kings cluelessness was so funny still making him go in the trip even after he was told a baby was coming. Violet and Isobel’s relationship was just as perfect as always, only they had the addition of Maud this time to give them someone else to bicker with which I loved even more.
This whole movie was just made so well and I really enjoyed stepping through those doors again and being part of the hustle and bustle of Downton Abbey.
Life is always a much happier place with Downton Abbey in it, I do hope that we get another movie in the coming years, there is always so much more they can do and we are approaching the ‘30s now so a whole new era they can explore with Downton. Maybe they can even find a role to bring back Lady Rose in the future as I missed her but totally see why she wasn’t needed for this particular movie, but maybe in the next one we can bring her and her daughter back from New York. It would be so nice to see them again back at Downton, and even if not the movie would still be incredible.
