Review: I recently read The Wizard of Oz my first ever time you can read my review here. So I decided I really wanted to watch movies set in Oz, to see how similar and what parts from the Book was used.
I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It was so very interesting and I liked the take on the whole story. I loved getting to see the witches only there was 1 missing from the book as there were 4 but only 3 shown in the movie. I really enjoyed seeing Theodoras transition from relatively good to utterly evil.
Oz himself wasn’t as originally depicted in the book but wow I thought he was actually a good character, he was incredibly creative, he was fast thinking given the situations he got in he was able to create fantastic things. Though yes selfish at times he was generally a really sweet guy and did the right thing by protecting the kingdom.
I thought the take on the sisters was interesting and very different, with one being so pure and then the most evil one manipulating the innocent one turning her angrier and angrier so she could get her revenge. It was a different tale to the book but it worked and was very interesting.
I loved the vision of each different land, each one with its people and each one so vibrant in the movie. If certain storylines hadn’t happened I think a sequel would have been fascinating seeing Dorothy in this version of Oz and her adventures told in a slightly different way and with how vibrant it was. It would have been fun, but given the storyline of the witches obviously that’s not possible but still would have been interesting.
I really enjoyed watching this movie, it was so creative, the storyline was so interesting and I liked the deeper exploration of the witches and of the conman Oz really was.
